African swine flu detected in Kerala: Vigilance and measures in full swing at borders
PTI, Sep 2, 2023, 2:16 PM IST
African Swine Fever has been officially detected among pigs in Kerala, prompting the ongoing surveillance efforts to curb its spread within the region.
In a bid to prevent the transmission of African Swine Fever to the district, heightened vigilance has been enforced at key border checkposts such as Talapady, and Saradka, which connect to Kerala state.
At these checkpoints, vehicles transporting pork to the Kerala side are subjected to chemical spraying as a precautionary measure. Strict monitoring of the movement of pork and pork products is also in effect.
Additionally, Departmental Veterinary Officers have been tasked with visiting all pig farms within their respective jurisdictions to provide guidance and counsel to pig farmers.
