Mangaluru: A recent installation of a signboard at Mangaluru Junction railway station, managed by the Southern Railway, has ignited a controversy due to the omission of the Kannada language.
The board, which bore the inscription “Mangaluru Junction Running Room,” was exclusively in Malayalam, Hindi, and English, omitting the local language.
Members of various railway organizations promptly voiced their discontent and lodged a formal complaint with the officials of the Palakkad division. The issue also gained traction on social media platforms, drawing the attention of railway authorities.
Under mounting pressure, railway officials took swift action, removing the non-Kannada board on Saturday. Local railway users have emphatically called for the inclusion of Kannada on the replacement board.
