Bengaluru: Condemning Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s statement on the Belagavi border issue BS Yediyurappa said that statements in favour of regionalism and lingualism are a threat to the unity of the country.
The Karnataka chief minister further said: “By saying that Marathi-speaking and culture areas of Karnataka will be added to Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has showcased his brutishness. This is contrary to the principles of the Indian integralism. The Mahajan Commission’s report is final and everyone knows the truth.”
In Karnataka, Marathi-speakers have co-mingled with Kannadigas in Karnataka’s border districts, similarly, Kannadigas have co-mingled with Marathi-speakers in Maharashtra’s bordering districts. It is saddening that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra is trying to sabotage this amicable atmosphere. Uddhav Thackeray, as an Indian, must be committed to respecting the principle of integralism,” Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa added.
Uddhav Thackeray, in a tweet on Sunday, had said that Maharashtra will recover Karnataka-occupied Marathi-speaking and cultural areas. It is only when the lands of Marathi-speakers in Karnataka are integrated with Maharashtra will a true tribute can be given to the martyrs. We are united and committed to this.
