Udupi: As per the notification from Shimoga Deputy Commissioner K A Dayanand, with the repair work along Agumbe Ghat reaching completion, light vehicles such as mini buses, jeeps, vans, cars and two wheelers will be allowed to ply on the road from Thursday May 16.
“18 days are required for the curing of the concrete work here, hence light commercial vehicles (LCVs) will be permitted from June 1. Till then, such vehicles will take a detour via Thirthahalli – Masthikatte – Hosangady – Siddapura – Udupi and Thirthahalli – Koppa – Sringeri – Malaghat – Karkala – Udupi,” informed Udupi DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati in a press release.
The incessant rains last monsoon had an adverse effect on Agumbe Ghat leading to landslides at some places and bringing vehicular movement to a halt. Hence, concreting was undertaken along the stretch and traffic was diverted via an alternative route.
Presently the work has been completed and permission has been given for the movement of light vehicles along the stretch. All vehicles will be allowed along the stretch in phases.
