Karkala: Deputy commissioner of Shivamogga K A Dayananda informed that repair works of Agumbe Ghat, which was supposed to be closed for traffic from today has been postponed in view of the objection raised by zonal wildlife department.
He further added that vehicular movement on the ghat can continue as usual till the issue gets resolved and clarity emerges on when the repairs works will be undertaken.
Notably, this is the second time that the repair works planned on the Ghat had to be postponed. Earlier closure order of the Ghat, from March 1 was postponed to March 19 owing to the second PU examinations.
Though social media users were sharing information regarding the lifting of the vehicular restriction on the Ghat, assistant deputy commissioner of Udupi district as also SP of Udupi district claimed to have no such information.
It is gathered that forest officials had conducted an inspection of the area where repair works are to be undertaken and raised objection since prior permission had not been sought from them for felling of trees.
