New Delhi: In a major jolt for the Congress, veteran party leader PC Chacko on Wednesday announced his decision to quit the party.

The move comes months ahead of the Kerala assembly election.

“I have quit Congress and sent my resignation to party’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi,” Chacko told news agency ANI.

The Congress leader is reportedly miffed with the party for ignoring state leaders in the selection of candidates for the April 6 Kerala polls

“I worked hard for the party, but it is really difficult to work with the Kerala Congress team. I stood with every decision taken by Congress, but it’s now very difficult. You can’t run a party with one central character,” Chacko stated in his resignation letter.
