Udupi: The much-awaited All India Dharma Sansad began on a grand note here on Friday, with thousands of religious leaders of the Hindu community from all over India converging in a vibrant procession flanked by a rich exhibit of cultural troupes.

Delivering the keynote address, international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP), Pravin Togadia called upon individuals to take after the Indian constitution and practice secularism as lectured in that genuinely. He rehashed his request to oust untouchability.

“The true secularism as preached is not being practised. Temples and Mathas should not be managed by the government. Their respective heads should manage them. What is happening now is totally unconstitutional,” he said.

Talking about cow slaughter, he stated that the cows support agriculture – their dung can be used as fertilizer and the products obtained from it are of very good use. Agriculture based on cattle can be very rewarding, he said.

Addressing the Ayodhya issue, “So many lives have been lost in our struggle to take back holy land at Ayodhya. We have made up our mind to build Ram temple at Ayodhya under the leadership of Pejawar Swamiji. Only Lord Ram’s temple should come up there,” he stressed.

He advised all families to get all their children educated. He also wanted everyone to get employed and dreams of ‘Rama Rajya’, an India free of any debt.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad secretary general, Champat Rai, also spoke on this grand occasion.

Swamijis and sages were brought to the venue from near Rajangan of Sri Krishna Math accompanied by chanting of Vedic hymns and ‘Poorna Kumbhas’ as per tradition before the commencement of   Dharma Sansad. People and heads of Mathas from various states assembled for the ‘Dharma Sansad’. Over 150 seats were occupied on the dais.

Swamijis of Puthige, Sode, Krishnapur Matha, Vajradehi Rajashekharananda Swamiji, Suttur Shri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji, Kalahstendra Swamiji of Katapadi, Raghaveshwara Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Matha and many others were among the prominent personalities who participated in the programme.
