All Mangaluru Smart City works stopped: MCC to High Court

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) municipal commissioner Akshay Sridhar has informed the High Court that all the works of the Mangaluru Smart City project have been halted until they adhere to the Solid Waste Disposal Rules 2016.
The commissioner made this statement during a High Court hearing on a public interest litigation that alleged that the Smart City project is spreading solid waste in the city.
Recently, the High Court had warned the MCC and Mangaluru Smart City Limited that all the work on the project would be ordered to stop if a satisfactory explanation is not provided on solid waste management in the city.
The High Court had also ordered to supply drinking water in tankers to the areas of the city affected by the Pachanady garbage landslide.
MCC Commissioner informed the court that the contractors working under the many Smart City project would be informed of the halt in works soon.
The High Court stated that the next hearing on the case will be on January 20.
