Alva’s Foundation to adopt 3 children orphaned in Sulvadi temple tragedy

Mangaluru: Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, will adopt three children, who have been orphaned following the death of their parents after consuming the ‘poison-laced’ prasad served at Sulvadi Maramma temple in Chamarajanagar, Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said.

Couple Krishna Nayaka and Myli Bai, were among those dead in the tragedy. They are survived by three children including two daughters. Addressing presspersons Dr M Mohan Alva said, “The Alva’s Education Foundation will provide the three children with free education at Alva’s College, along with free food and accommodation. They will also be provided financial assistance of Rs one lakh.” 

The couple’s elder daughter Rani Bai is studying BSc in Mysuru, the second daughter is pursuing BSc (nursing)in Bidadi and youngest son is in PUC, he informed.

Alva’s Pre University College principal Dr Kurian met with the children, their relatives and spoke to them regarding the offer. “If the children are willing to pursue their education at Alva’s then further action will be taken,” he said adding that the institution will also take responsibility of providing them with employment.
