Kolar: Police arrested eight persons for allegedly pelting stones at an ambulance carrying the body of a 57-year-old deceased COVID-19 patient to burial ground at Bangerpet here on Tuesday night.

The locals, from Gangammanapalya and Kumabarapalya localities gathered in huge numbers and refused to make way for the ambulance to pass as they feared transmission of the virus if the deceased COVID-19 patient’s body travelled through their locality.

Efforts made by the ambulance staff to convince them went in vain and few of them even pelted stones at the ambulance.

Police intervention was sought as the situation went out of control and they had to resorted to mild lathi charge in order to disperse the crowd. They later diverted the ambulance’s route.
