Kapu: A bike rider sustained serious injuries after an ambulance collided head-on collision into his bike at Kapu on National Highway 66 on Sunday, March 12, afternoon.

The injured identified as Ritesh Devadiga, a resident of Uchila has been admitted to Manipal Hospital.

As per reports Ritesh was travelling to Udupi from Uchila when the ambulance moving towards Mangaluru from Udupi rammed into his bike. Ritesh was thrown off his scooter and sustained head injuries. Locals rushed him to Manipal Hospital in an ambulance from the Kapu Primary Health Centre.

It is gathered that due to the road works at Kapu on NH 66, there is one-way traffic on the Mangaluru-Udupi road and the driver of the ambulance was driving in the opposite direction thus causing the accident.

Meanwhile, Kapu MLA Lalaji R. Mendon rushed to the spot and lashed out at the ambulance driver responsible for the accident. He also took to task the contractors who are changing arrangements for vehicular traffic in a day-to-day manner.

Kapu police visited the spot and took the ambulance and the driver into custody.
