Bengaluru: The state government is likely to bring about amendments to the existing sand mining policy within fifteen days time.

At a review meeting held with officials of the Mines and Geology department, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday instructed the officials to submit a proposal for amending the existing mining policy in order to curb the activities of the sand mafia. He also directed officials not to give any scope for illegalities while issuing permits for sand mining and quarrying.

A team of experts, who visited neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra to study their mining policy will,  in a report, put forth their suggestions to the government. The mining policy will be amended based on this report.
