Udupi: Unhappy that the seat was offered to JD(S) despite the Congress having a better chance at winning, All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Amrith Shenoy filed his nomination for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate on Tuesday, March 26.
Amrith was an aspirant for the Congress ticket in the constituency and took serious exception to the seat being offered to JD (S). Although Mr Shenoy expressed happiness over Madhwaraj’s candidature, he did not relent and Congress-JD(S) allinace failed to pacify him.
Taking to Facebook Mr Shenoy said, “I would have worked for the party if the ticket had been given to any of the members from Congress party. Even though many said that I was an aspirant for the ticket, I did not lobby for it. The Congress had a good opportunity as there was anti-Shobha wave in the constituency. The Congress had all possibility to win, but the high command took a bad decision. The JD(S) did not have a candidate. Why did they (JD(S)) want Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency at all if the ticket had to be given to Pramod Madhwaraj?” he asked.
“I am not calling any Congress members to support me or come along with me. Anyone who is interested can come and join me. I will not withdraw my nomination. Once confirmed, I will start my campaign. I will not pass wrong comments against any of my opponents, nor will allow my supporters do the same. I will let you know when I receive the symbol. Bless me,” he posted.
