An unidentified vehicle mows down a woman crossing road

Ullal: An elderly woman lost her life after an unidentified vehicle hit her while she was crossing the road at Thokkottu junction near here on Saturday, January 19. The deceased woman is identified as Jayanti (67), wife of Ratnakar, a resident of Ranipur Santoshnagar.

Jayanti was walking along NH 66 on her way to the bank when the unidentified vehicle hit her bolted off. The force of the impact was such that Jayanti was hurled to the road and suffered grievous injuries to her which led to her death on the spot.

Mangaluru South traffic police have registered a case and are searching for the vehicle which has been identified through a CCTV footage.

Jayanti’s younger son had left for Dubai on the morning of Saturday via Bengaluru, but on getting news of her demise while he was in Bengaluru, he returned from there to attend the last rites of his mother. Jayanti is survived by husband, three sons and two daughters.
