On Mother’s Day, Anand Mahindra fulfilled a promise he made to Tamil Nadu’s Idli Amma by giving her a new house. The Mahindra Group Chairman’s compassion has once again demonstrated that he is a man of the people first.
On Sunday, the entrepreneur and millionaire uploaded a video of K Kamalathal, also known as Idli Amma, inaugurating her new home, which includes a “special kitchen” built just for her.
He wrote, “Immense gratitude to our team for completing the construction of the house in time to gift it to Idli Amma on#MothersDay She’s the embodiment of a Mother’s virtues: nurturing, caring & selfless. A privilege to be able to support her & her work. Happy Mother’s Day to you all!”

This was a great gesture right on the day where mothers are remembered. Keeping in mind a motherly attitude and doing something good for her speaks so well of @anandmahindra. Thank you sir! https://t.co/oNUGXwCAnN

So noble. Iam sure she would now have some respite while doing the selfless work she does. In a time where a simple Plate of idli is priced for rs 100 in most places, making it available at 1 rupee is philanthropic
Cheers to you and idli Amma 👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽#HappyMothersDay2022— Prof Wingardium leviosa (@lost_untilfound) May 8, 2022
For more than 37 years, K Kamalathal of Vadivelampalayam village in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district has been selling homemade Idli and Sambar for just Re.1. Anand Mahindra was drawn to Idli Amma’s story after it became viral in 2019.
He was moved by her selflessness and generosity of heart and resolved to assist her.
Later, in April 2021, the businessman went one step farther and promised her her own home.
Only rarely does one get to play a small part in someone’s inspiring story, and I would like to thank Kamalathal, better known as Idli Amma, for letting us play a small part in hers. She will soon have her own house cum workspace from where she will cook & sell idlis (1/3) https://t.co/vsaIKIGXTp
