“Ancient Gold” found during temple renovation in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: Villagers discovered “ancient gold” during the renovation of a temple in Tamil Nadu. During renovation of the Lord Shiva temple off Uthiramerur taken up by the villagers, ‘gold items’ said to be weighing over half a kg were found beneath the steps leading to the sanctum sanctorum a few days ago

The gold was seized by authorities and deposited with the government treasury on Sunday, Dec 13. While local people protested saying that they wish to place the gold at the temple after renovation, authorities were firm on taking it

It is said that the temple belonged to the Chola era.
