Ankola: The LPS tanker swept away into the Gangavali River by the landslide at Shirur was safely emptied and pulled ashore on Friday evening.
The landslide occurred on Tuesday, causing multiple vehicles, including a tanker carrying LPG gas parked on the national highway, to be swept into the river. The tanker drifted for about 6 kilometres before getting stuck near Sagadgeri. The gas started leaking, following which local residents were evacuated.
Specialists, along with an NDRF team, arrived promptly and managed to stop the leak. The tanker was secured with ropes to prevent further drifting. Considering the risk, the district officials decided to empty the gas from the tanker under expert guidance.
By Thursday morning, the tanker, located 150 meters from the riverbank, was gradually emptied. By Friday afternoon, the gas was completely emptied, and the tanker was safely removed from the river using a crane.
The successful operation over two days relieved the villagers of Sagadgeri, who had evacuated their homes. They returned home safely on Friday evening.
