Ankola police seized Rs 1.15 crore in cash from an abandoned car in a deserted area near Ramanaguli in Ankola taluk on January 28 evening.
The suspicious vehicle, bearing registration number KA 51 MB 9634, was found to be registered as an Altroz car in Madikeri RTO records. However, the car in question was a Hyundai Creta, raising doubts about its authenticity.
The car’s bonnet and trunk were open, the seat was torn off and thrown outside and the window panes were shattered. Local residents informed the Ankola police who rushed to the spot.
Upon inspection, the police found an iron box inside the car, which, when opened, revealed Rs 1.15 crore in cash.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
