Puttur: On Thursday evening, amidst the jubilant chants of devotees, Sri Deva’s Avabhritha Savari marked the culmination of the annual fair at the historically renowned Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwar Temple. Thousands of devotees thronged to the Veeramangala Kumaradhara river bank to witness this auspicious event.
The procession commenced with a procession of the deity to the river bank early morning on April 19th, following rituals including aarti, pudukai, and katte pujas performed by devotees. Notably, the diety was brought to the temple after an ablution bath, a symbolic act undertaken after an arduous 18-hour walk.
Preceding the Avabhritha Savari, various traditional ceremonies took place. Following the Brahmarathotsava, Bangar Kaarkatte Savari and the customary farewell to the deities of Shri Ullalti were observed. The festivities also included Bhuta Bali and other rituals.
Katte Pooja ceremonies were conducted at numerous locations along the route, including prominent landmarks like Sri Lakshmi Meenkataramana Temple Katte, Gandhi Katte, and Aruna Cinema. These rituals were attended by devout followers, adding fervor to the occasion.
A cultural program enriched the atmosphere as devotees adorned trinkets and electric lamps along the procession route. The festivities were further elevated with a series of events showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Earlier, on April 18th, Tulabhara Seva witnessed devoted followers offering various commodities like rice, coconut, and bananas to Lord Shri Mahalingeshwar as a gesture of gratitude for fulfilling their prayers.
The annual fair of Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwar Temple serves not only as a religious event but also as a vibrant celebration of cultural traditions and communal harmony.
