Udupi: Incidents of theft in unoccupied houses continue in Udupi city. On Saturday night, thieves broke into a house in Budnar and reportedly stole a laptop, a tablet, around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, and gold jewellery, according to the home owners.
The house belongs to the late K. Mohammad, who passed away about 6 months ago. At the time of the theft, only his mother and daughter were living there. On Saturday evening, they had gone to visit relatives in Mangaluru. The housemaid discovered the break-in on Sunday morning and alerted the neighbors, bringing the incident to light.
Police Investigation
The police have begun their investigation, but the exact value of the stolen items is yet to be determined. The police inspector of the city station confirmed that a detailed report will be filed after gathering complete information. Dog squads and fingerprint experts have inspected the site.
Suspect Behavior Caught on CCTV
Initial investigations suggest the involvement of masked thieves who had previously broken into three apartments in Brahmagiri. CCTV footage from a neighboring house captured a suspicious person on a scooter with a flashlight on Saturday afternoon. The police are now focusing on identifying this individual from CCTV footage in nearby shops and houses.
Despite previous thefts in Brahmagiri, the masked thieves remain unidentified. The police are exploring various escape routes, suspecting the thieves might have used the Karavali Bypass or the KSRTC bus station route to flee. The careful planning and execution suggest a well-orchestrated theft.
