Anti-conversion law: Karnataka registers first case; one arrested

Bengaluru: First case under the Anti-Conversion law has been reported in Karnataka, with the arrest of a Muslim man under the recently enacted Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Law
Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Law, commonly known as the anti-conversion law was notified on September 30.
The arrested has been identified as Syed Mueen (23), a resident of BK Nagar in Yeshwanthpur.
Syed Mueen has been accused of converting the girl to Islam after luring her on the pretext of marriage.
A 19-year-old woman went missing on October 5 and her mother approached the Yeshwanthpur Police Station and filed a missing complaint the next day. The girl’s family, which hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, has been staying in Bengaluru for the last 10 years.
Based on the complaint filed by the girl’s mother the police arrested the on Thursday (October 13)night. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the police are in the process of recording the girl’s statement.
