Anubhav Sinha resigns from ‘Bollywood’; receives support from fellow filmmakers

Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker Anubhav Sinha said that he would resign from Bollywood on Tuesday, July 21.
Sinha took to Twitter, and wrote,” Enough! I hereby resign from Bollywood whatever that means.”
In two follow-up tweets he wrote, “Bollywood was, Hindi films will,” indicating that he has disassociated from the term “Bollywood” but will still continue to be the part of the Hindi film Industry.
He also changed his Twitter name to ‘Anubhav Sinha (Not Bollywood).’
His tweet received support from directors Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta, who claimed that they have quit Bollywood as well.
Sudhir Mishra replied to Sinha and wrote, ” Bollywood chhodo (quit Bollywood).”
In response to this tweet, director Hansal Mehta wrote, “Chhor diya (I have quit). It never existed in the first place.”
In the follow-up tweets, they listed names of legendary Indian filmmakers who inspired them to be filmmakers – Satyajit Ray, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Ritwick Ghatak, Bimal Roy, Mrinal Sen, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, K Asif, Vijay Anand, Javed Akhtar, Tapan Sinha, Gulzar, Shekhar Kapur, and Ketan Mehta.
They also hailed new era filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Neeraj Ghaywan for making “Indian cinema.”
“Bollywood a synonym for a lifestyle, necessarily independent cinema is not a promotional vehicle for a lifestyle,” added Mishra.
