Mangaluru: Apartment complexes that have failed to set up solid waste processing units will be penalised from February 10, informed Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde

As per the Solid Waste Management Rule 2016, the fines can range from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for the first two offenses and a criminal case can be registered on the third offense, Ajith Kumar told media persons here on Friday, February 7.

The civic body had held meeting with various apartment associations, educational institutions, hotels, hostels, bar and restaurants, and marriage halls coming under MCC limits explaining about the functioning of the solid waste processing units and urged them to install the same by end of 2019. However, several apartments are still to install the units, said Ajith Kumar.

Later, the MCC commissioner paid a visit to Sai Prem Apartments at Mannagudda, Maurishka Palace at Kadri Kambala and Father Muller Hospital who have installed solid waste management units in their premises.
