Aranthodu: Madikeri Police arrested a third suspect in the killing of Usman at Kudrepaya in Chembu village, over a property dispute about 2 weeks ago.

Mubarak (27), a nephew of the deceased was arrested for his involvement in the case, police said.

Police had previously arrested Usman’s younger siblings — Sattar and Rafeeq — for the murder.

According to police, Mubarak ran a bakery in Bengaluru and had returned after shutting shop during the Covid pandemic. He resided at a house near Sullia Junior College. Mubarak allegedly owned the murder weapon – a bakery knife – and lent it to his uncles a day prior to the murder, police said.

Mubarak was arrested in Sullia on July 27 and was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody, police added.
