Traffic on the national highway in Elpakaje village here was affected after heavy rains lashing the district uprooted a huge tree here at around 3 am last night.
A resident, Janardhana, woke up to the sound of the tree falling and informed Tajuddin Aranthodu of the situation. He reached the spot and called the relevant authorities. Following this a crane was used to move the tree aside.
Prior to this, motorists tied a rope to the tree and attempted to move it aside with a pick-up vehicle as vehicles lined up on both sides of the road.
Once the crane was used to remove the debris, the traffic began moving smoothly.
Meanwhile, a lorry that had stopped on the side of the road got stuck after its wheel got buried in the mud.
