Arebhase academy to celebrate ‘Arebhase Day’ on Dec 15

Madikeri: The Arebhashe Samskrithi Haagu Sahithya Academy (Arebahse Cultural and Literary Academy) will be celebrating December 15 as the Arebhashe Day.
The announcement was made by the academy’s president Lakshminarayana Kajagadde.
Arebhase is a dialect of Kannada language spoken mainly in the Coorg region and Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka and also in some parts of the Kasargod district in Kerala.
Various cultural programmes and events have been organised for the day such as Yakshagana performances, drama performances, lectures, essay writing competition, elocution, short films screenings, photo exhibition and music concert of Arebhase songs.
Additionally, there will also be an exhibition of traditional articles used by people in the Arebhase speaking areas.
Kajagadde also said that the work on the composition of the Arebhase dictionary is going well with 14 researchers in the field collecting words for the lexicon.
Furthermore, a meeting of the academy will be convened in Sullia on December 20 to discuss on the creation of the Arebhase encyclopedia and the making of a documentary on contributors to Arebhashe NS Deviprasad, Professor Kodi Kushalappa Gowda, Mohan Sona and the Kodagu Gowda Vidya Sangha.
