Artistes decry ‘Insult’ to traditions of Yakshagana at Kalotsava in Kallikote

The organisers of a state-level school function allegedly insulted the Yakshagana art form during the event held at Kallikote on Thursday.

Reportedly, the organisers stormed onto the stage during the Chowki puja, held before the onset of the Yakshagana and extinguished the lamp lit in front of Ganesha idol.

Media persons present at the event were not allowed to film the event. A compliant was registered with the police who then managed to convince the artists to take stage and perform their act.

Responding to this incident, Yakshagana guru Madhav Nettani said that he never experienced such an incident in his 22-year career life as an artist. HE further added that even if the artist forgive this act of the organisers, they will not get God’s mercy.
