ASHA worker sexually assaulted; Man arrested

Puttur: A senior citizen was for alleged sexual assault of an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), by the Puttur Rural police on Sunday September 20th. The arrested elderly has been identified as Haji Mohammed Kunhi, 68, of Paduvanooru village near Puttur.

The accusation

Mr Kunhi has been accused of pulling the hand of ASHA worker and attempting to sexually assault her when she was returning home from work. He was reportedly absconding for the last three days.

The arrest

On Sunday, Puttur Rural police finally arrested the accused under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 354 (sexual assault) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before the local magistrate, who remanded him to 15 days of judicial custody.
