Asian Benchpress champions return home

Mangaluru: The Mangalorean team which won several medals at the Asian Benchpress championship held recently in Dubai from 18- 24 September 2018 were welcomed by Mayor Bhaskar K and were received with much fanfare by their well-wishers, sports lovers, friends and relatives at Mangaluru Central railway station on Thursday, September 27th.
Though victorious, expressing their displeasure with the department, “I’m happy that I got the opportunity to participate in the competition. But at the same time, I feel sad because our coach Satish Kudroli did not get the opportunity to go along with us to the competition. If Mr Satish had been given the chance to go with us we would have won more gold medals,” said Athlete Vincent Prakash Carlo
State government’s support required
“We need more support from the state government. The funds meant for us sportsperson have not be disbursed since 2015. Therefore, the state government needs to release these funds as soon as possible and thereby help us in preparing for upcoming competitions,” said Satish Kudroli to Udayavani
The haul
“Altogether 25 sportspersons took part in the competition and won 11 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals. The Department did not give me the opportunity to go with them if not, the results would have been even better,” said the coach Satish Kudroli.
Athletes team include Akshata Poojary, Ravikumar Ballalbagh, Vincent Prakash Carlo, Vince Falan Carlo, Venecia Carlo, Usha R, Panchami, Swathi, Laxman, Pasha, Vijay Kanchan, Ravi, Anoop, Jagadeesh and others.
After the arrival of the team, they were taken on a procession in an open roof jeep from Mangaluru Central railway station to Anjaneya Vyayama Shale.
