Assault on HJV leader: Judicial custody of Chaithra and others extended

Puttur: A local court in Puttur, on Monday, November 5 extended the judicial custody of Hindu organisation activist Chaithra Kundapur and six others arrested in connection to an assault on Hindu Jagran Vedike (HJV) leader Guruprasad at Subramanya till November 19.
During the hearing into the case held on Saturday, November 3 the court had asked Chaithra and her six accomplices to be present personally for the hearing on Monday. Observing that Chaitra was in good health, the judge questioned the reason for her getting treated in the hospital.
Chaithra’s doctor and jail superintendent were also directed to appear before the court on Monday and were asked to give details of medical treatment provided to her. The doctor submitted a medical report of Chaithra which stated that she is in good health.
It may be recalled, Guruprasad, had sustained serious injuries on his head and was admitted into the government hospital here following after a verbal duel between him and Chaitra turned into a brawl on October 25. Subramanya police had taken into custody Chaithra Kundapur and her accomplices in this connection.
Guruprasad was granted conditional bail by the Sullia court on November 3.
