Mangaluru: Police have arrested 3 persons in connection with the assault on a student traveling in a bus for allegedly sharing a bus seat with a Hindu girl.

Kadri Police arrested 3 accused in the case — identified as Muthu and Prakash from Surathkal, and Rakesh of Asaigoli.

The victim, Syed Rashim Ummer (20) who is a student at a private college in Karkala, was assaulted inside the bus on November 24 in Nanthoor.

Every day, Syed Rashim and a Hindu girl from his class would travel in a private bus that takes the Karkala-Nitte route to reach Mangaluru.

According to the complaint, 3-4 youths had barged into the bus and assaulted Rashim. The gang allegedly forced him to get off the bus and threatened to murder him if he told anyone about the assault.
