Gulbarga: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Chincholi in Kalaburagi Avinash Umesh Jadhav, won the assembly by-polls against Subhash V Rathod of the Congress on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Kusumavati Channabasappa Shivalli, the Congress candidate from Kundgol won the assembly by-polls against Chikkanagoudra Siddanagouda Ishwaragouda of the BJP.

Chincholi headed to the by-polls after Avinash’s father and former Congress legislator, Umesh Jadhav, resigned from the party and contested the Kalaburagi Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket. The by-poll in Kundgol was necessitated by the death of Karnataka minister and Congress leader C S Shivalli in March this year.

However, an official announcement is yet to be made, informed sources.
