Attempted murder of wife; Alcoholic husband gets 10 years RI

Mangaluru: The First Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 16,000 in connection to the charges of attempted murder of his wife for not giving him money to consume alcohol.
The convict is identified as Ravi (44) of Belur in Hassan district. Ravi is an alcoholic and resided at Chembugudde in Permannur village with his wife Rekha (38). On July 7th 2017, Ravi demanded money from his wife to consume alcohol. However, Rekha refused to put up with his demands and angered y the refusal, Ravi stabbed Rekha and fled.
A case was registered against him at Ullal police station and the then sub-inspector Prakash Kumar submitted the chargessheet to the Court. During the hearing, the Judge Sharada upheld the public prosecutor Raju Poojary Bannady’s argument and convicted the accused. The victim Rekha is also eligible to get compensation from Legal Services Authority ruled the Judge.
