Los Angeles: “Moana” star Auli’i Cravalho will topline Netflix’s new musical comedy “Sorta Like a Rock Star”.
The film will be directed by Brett Haley, best known for films such as “The Hero” and “Hearts Beat Loud”, the streaming giant said in a statement.
Cravalho, 18, will play a teenage girl who, despite her difficult circumstances, is preternaturally optimistic about the world and her place in it.
“She often helps those around her, resulting in powerful bonds with a disparate group of outsiders in her community, until she faces a devastating loss and can no longer ignore the challenges in her own life,” the official plotline of the show read.
The young actor broke out on the Hollywood scene after voice starring in Disney’s 2016 musical animated feature “Moana”. She currently features in NBC series “Rise”.
“Sorta Like a Rock Star” will begin filming in October.
It will be produced by Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman; Temple HIll Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner. Jonathan Montepare will serve as an executive producer.
