Australian scientists claim to have found the first confirmed underwater Aboriginal archaeological sites off the coast of Australia.
At the end of the Ice age many settlements which were built in areas that were on dry land were submerged as the sea rose
It is said that when people first arrived in Australia as early as 65,000 years ago, sea levels were around 80 metres lower than today.
Sea levels fluctuated but continued to fall as the global climate cooled. The sea-level rise flooded 2.12 million square kilometres of land on the continental shelf surrounding Australia.
