Bengaluru: Baburao Chinchansur, a prominent BJP leader from the Kalyana Karnataka region, has resigned from his post as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council on Monday. It is also learnt that he has also resigned from his primary membership of BJP.
Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraja Horatti confirmed that he had met with Chinchansur on Monday afternoon, where he tendered his resignation as a member, which was accepted. This has led to speculation that Chinchansur may be planning to join the Congress and may make an announcement about it on Tuesday morning at the KPCC office.
A five-time MLA from Gurmitkal and Chittapur assembly constituencies, Chinchansur quit Congress and joined the BJP after his defeat in the 2018 elections. He was nominated to the Vidhana Parishad by the BJP after CM Ibrahim, who was elected to the Legislative Council by the Congress, resigned from the council seat to join the JDS. Chinchansur’s term as a member of the Parishad was set to continue until 2024.
