Back-to-back murders: Police detain 10-14 suspects for questioning

The city police have reportedly detained around 10-14 persons for questioning in the backdrop of two back-to-back killings in the coastal district of Karnataka.

Police said that the detained persons were found to be roaming around suspiciously even after Sec 144 came into effect. However it is yet to be ascertained if they had any involvement in the murder of Fazil.

Within 48 hours of the murder of a BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru on Tuesday night, another youth named Fazil was hacked to death at Surathkal here in full public view.

The last rites of Fazil were held today.

Amid the escalating communal tension, police extended the Sec 144 to Mangaluru police commissionerate limits and have summoned rowdy sheeters and those involved in similar offenses in the past for questioning.

Security has also been tightened in the Udupi district to prevent untoward situations.
