Bad state of Kadri Park: Alcohol bottles, cigarette buds, gutka packets

Mangaluru: Beer bottles, cigarette buds, gutka packets, rusted pile of iron lie strewn here and there! Amongst this play little children. This is the story of the bad state of Kadri Park in the city.
Daily, hundreds of children, parents, senior citizens and tourists visit this park which is the largest and popular park in the city which has been now developed with a grant of Rs 1.5 crore. But is has not been successful in preventing miscreants from doing illegal activities here.
Illegal activity
The discarded beer bottles around the bamboo park and Ganganapalla pond within the park is proof enough to say that illegal activities are being carried here. Just within reach lies the office of the officials and the area is covered with plants and bamboos. Therefore, most of the people who visit the park do not venture into this area. Hence, some miscreants have made this areas their destination for illegal activity.
No CC cameras
Though there is a rise in trouble caused by delinquents in the park, no CC cameras have been installed within the park to prevent any undesirable incident. Due to this very reason, though illegal activities occur at the corners in the park, no one realizes it.
A local spoke with “Udayavani” and said that the park’s compound wall near the Ganganapalla pond is not high enough. Hence, some people climb the wall and gain access into the park. The entry time for the park is until 8pm and this needs to be further reduced, says the local.
Police station lies within calling distance!
Kadri police station lies within a calling distance from Kadri Park. Sometimes, the police enter the park in mufti. But that does not mean there is any security staff appointed within the park on behalf of the police department. The two workers within the park also are responsible for the park duty. Besides one security guard works from 6 pm in the evening till 6 am in the morning.
Board only for namesake
Within the park is installed a board which states that smoking and drinking is not allowed inside the park, as well as plastic and other waste should not be disposed within the park premises. But it is surprising to find beer bottles, plastic and waste being discarded right been the very board.
Another gate near the entrance
Within the park, right next to the entrance lies the old gate which has caught rust and is spoiling the beauty of the park.
Will take action
“We will take action to prevent any illegal activities from happening within Kadri Park premises. We have informed the requirement of security staff in mufti around the park,” said Janaki, Senior Assistant of Horticulture Department
Have sent notice
“The locals have already informed me of the illegal activities occurring within the Kadri Park premises. Immediately I have sent a notice to the officials of the Horticulture Department. Besides I have also spoken with Kadri police station inspector regarding the security. I have directed for the installation of CC cameras in the coming days,” said D Vedavyas Kamath, MLA
