A video of a burqa-clad woman intentionally damaging the idols of Lord Ganesha has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the woman, aged 54, is seen picking up the idols that were kept on display at a store and then throws it on the floor. The incident is said to have taken place in Bahrain.

Shockingly few Islamists called the woman brave for breaking the idols while others defended her action citing the demolition of Babri Masjid and incidents of lynching of people for eating beef in India. Several others have condemned the incident.

“it’s grotesque and shameful that this happening in Bahrain to the Hindu community. Bahrain even has Hindu temples and has been promoting openness to other religions. All love and blessings to our Hindu brothers and sisters and Happy Ganesh Chathurthi. Folded hands,” tweeted a user.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior, Bahrain in a statement said that the Director-General of Capital Governorate Police has summoned the woman for intentionally damaging a shop in Juffair and breaking religious idols. The ministry has further stated that legal proceedings are underway.
