Mangaluru: Rs 20 crore will be released from the department for the development of basic infrastructure in the Baikampady industrial zone on the outskirts of the city, said K J George, Minister for large and medium scale industries and ITBT speaking at the meeting that was held with the industrialists at the auditorium of the Baikampady small scale industries association.

“There is a scarcity of land here. 543 acres of land that was acquired for Nagarjuna Steel Company is under litigation. If we get specific demand, the government is ready to appraise the court of the same and provide it to the industrialists. 160 acres of land is provided for the Coastguard Training Center. The government has agreed to give 50 acres of land to build the office of RAF security force,” said Mr George.

“It is possible to construct a waste disposal unit at Baikampady through the district administration. A legal amendment needs to be done in order to transform Baikampady industrial zone into a township. I will take action as soon as possible in this regard. Land for the construction of Plastic Park, which is a central government project, is already identified,” added the minister.

Speaking on the requirement of skilled employees Mr George said, “Skilled employees are required for the industries. The government has established a K-tech training centre for the same reason. The government has formed a scheme to establish training centres with private participation also.”

Logistic Park

“Instead of the truck terminal for the parking of trucks, NMPT has provided a land of five acres to construct an ultra-modern logistic park. However, we require a minimum of 10 acres for this purpose,” said Mr George.
