Vijayanagar: In a freak road accident, two persons were killed and four others were seriously injured when a government-run bus hit an oncoming autorickshaw due to a tyre burst on Wednesday. The accident took place at the Kuppina Keri Cross in the Taluk on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Pushpalatha (20), a college student, and Meenakshi (38), a resident of Rampura. Ramesh, Eranna, Abhishek, and Swathi, who were in the rickshaw, sustained injuries and have been admitted to Kudligi government hospital.
The bus was moving towards Ballari when its front tyre exploded, and the bus veered to the right and collided head-on with the oncoming rickshaw. The deceased and the injured were on the ill-fated rickshaw, sources said.
A case has been registered under Kudligi police station limits. More information is awaited.
