Bamfaad review: Performance driven taxing movie with loose narrative

Bamfaad is a Zee5 original movie presented by Bollywood Director Anurag Kashyap and released on April 10. Directed by Ranjan Chandel, the movie stars Aaditya Rawal and Shalini Pandey (who previously starred in Telugu hit Arjun Reddy) who have made their digital debut with this one.

This movie revolves around an entitled politician’s son Nasir Jamal (Aditya Rawal), a fearless youth who even bullies professors and believes he owns the streets of Allahabad (now Prayagraj). He meets Jigar Fareedi (Vijay Verma), another politician who has control over the city. Both of them love Neelam (Shalini Pandey) and start to fight against each other for the rest of the film over their love interest.

Rajnan Chandel had worked with Anurag Kashyap in films like Raman Raghav 2.0 and Mukkabaaz and this movie has a flavour of Kashyap’s typical films like Gangs Of Wasseypur, Mukkebaaz and Raman Raghav 2.0.

From having the story setting in a small town and local accent to bloodshed in the second half, this is a typical Kashyap movie. However, despite the predictable storyline, the movie is not like the former movies we have already watched.

Aditya Rawal and Shalini Pandey performances as lead actors is commendable in Bamfaad. Vijay Verma performance as the antagonist is much watch-worthy in the movie. Jatin Sarna’s acting as Zahid, friend of Nasir offers many one liners that bring smile on audiences’ face.

The film has four songs and the music is composed by Vishal Verma while Raj Shekhar wrote the lyrics for the songs. The editing of the movie was done by Nitesh Bhatia and the sharp 141 minute movie shows that the makers have ensured it to keep it little over 100 minutes.

With such great performances, Bamfaad had potential and the makers try to pull many strings and to be different than the typical love story we have watched before. However, it turns out to be a simple story at the end but packaged differently.

The movie offers many unique one liners and flavor of Allahabad make it an enjoyable one-time watch.
