Bengaluru: Students of Bangalore University who bagged gold medals and ranks will now have to pay for the gold medals and rank certificates.
According to the notification issued by the university, the students will now have to pay Rs.500 in the form of demand draft favouring the finance officer of Bangalore University. The university has also sent the list of the students who are eligible for gold medal and rank certificates to the concerned colleges and asked them to collect the money from the students for the same. The eligible students will be given the gold medals and certificates during the 53rd convocation ceremony of the university.
The students are terribly disappointed by the university’s decision. Students told the media that the university was discrediting their hard work by asking them to pay for their medals.
Students have rejected to accept the medals as their parents are not ready to pay the university for the medals and certificates because they felt it was an insult to their children’s hard work.
Students have also told the media that it was more like paying for the medal and buying it from the store, as there is no value and appreciation for the hard work done by them.
