Bengaluru: A terrorist of the Ansar Bangla who was wanted in the killing of science writer and blogger Ananth Vijay Das was arrested from Bengaluru by the Kolkata Police.
The arrested, Faisal Ahmed, belonged to the Ansar Bangla, an Islamic jihadist organization, sources said.
Faisal and three others had killed Das in Bangladesh’s Sylhet in the year 2015. A court in Bangladesh had convicted them of murder and sentenced them to death. Faisal, however, was absconding and had fled to India to evade Bangladeshi authorities.
Police in Bangladesh receive intel that Faisal was hiding in Bengaluru and requested the Kolkata police for assistance. A special team of Kolkata police arrested Faisal from Bommanahalli on July 1.
Faisal worked as a cab driver in Bengaluru. He had obtained Indian documents such as voter ID, and passport using fake addresses in Mizoram and Assam.
It is alleged that Faisal had contacts with AlQaeda and had worked as its operative.
