Bantwal: In a case of an apparent suicide, a 55-year-old man met a watery grave as he jumped into the Netravati river.

A passerby found a  bike, slippers, and mobile phone deserted on the Netravati bridge on Tuesday night. Locals suspected someone might have jumped into the river. By 11 pm, local swimmers began the search and rescue operations.

When the locals rang the contacts in the phone, it was found to be the property of Jaleel who had not been seen since evening. The mortal remains of Jaleel were found early morning on Wednesday by local swimmers Sattar and Mohammad.

The reason behind the extreme step is not known. In the meantime, the body has been shifted to Bantwal government hospital for an autopsy.

A case has been registered at the Bantwal City Police Station, sources said.
