Bantwal: Cracks reportedly appeared in the middle of the old steel bridge on the Netravati River in Panemangaluru on Sunday, prompting concerns about the safety of traffic on the bridge.
It remains uncertain whether the crack is confined to the road surface or extends into the structure of the bridge itself. Given the gravity of the situation, a thorough review by experts specializing in bridge safety is required.
The bridge, an enduring relic from the British era, has witnessed decades of traffic. A report had deemed the century-old bridge to be unsafe for heavy vehicular traffic. Despite initial concerns, heavy vehicles continued to traverse the bridge over time.
The recent appearance of cracks has rekindled worries among local residents. Clarification is urgently required regarding the extent of the damage and the safety implications for traffic.
