Bantwal: Police on Friday busted a diesel stealing operation where a man and other people in his network were stealing diesel flowing in the pipeline under his property at Arbi near Sornadu in the taluk here.
The diesel pipeline from Mangaluru to Hassan is owned by a Central government-owned company and passes under a private farm in Sornadu. The land’s owner had stealthily dug up his land, attached a pipe to the main pipeline and was stealing the diesel.
The issue came to light after the company detected that it was receiving 500 litres less diesel at the other end. When the company’s technical team inspected the pipeline they found that the diesel flow is getting reduced at Sornadu.
The company filed a police complaint and after an investigation, the police found out that the diesel is being stolen from the farm.
The owner of the farm is absconding.
Bantwal rural police have registered a case and have started an investigation.
