Bantwal: Doctor loses Rs 1.65 lakhs to online fraudsters

Bantwal: A doctor here lost 1.65 lakhs to online fraudsters in the guise of updating his mobile number.
The victim Dr B Ashwin Baliga of Kids Care Center near BC Road in the taluk filed a complaint in this regard a the CEN police station.
According to the complaint, a stranger called the doctor on the evening of April 29 from a mobile number 9348699702. The stranger said that the doctor’s Jio mobile number needs to be updated. For this, he asked the doctor to download an app called ‘Quick Easy’ from Google Playstore.
The imposter also asked the medic to recharge his phone with Rs 10 using the My Jio App. The doctor did so using his credit card.
After this, the fraudsters withdrew money in installments ranging from Rs 10,00 to Rs 45,000 without the doctor’s knowledge. By the time the fraud was noticed, the doctor’s account was lighter by Rs 1.65 lakhs.
Police investigations are underway.
