The dead body of a resident of Kukkaje here, who had been missing for the past 10 days, was found on the Charmadi Ghat.
The deceased has been identified as Sawad (35), a resident of Kukkaje under the Bantwal Rural Police Station. His body was found in a decomposed state however, the cause of death is yet to be known.
Sawad was reportedly a ganja addict and would be away from home for many days. After a brief period, he would return home. Owing to his habits, Sawad’s family thought he would return as usual.
It is learnt that Sawad’s brother was told that his brother had been murdered in Charmadi Ghats, following which, the family started searching for his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, a dead body had been found in the Banakal area of the Charmadi Ghats of Chikkamagaluru. As the body was quite decomposed, the family identified it to be that of Sawad based on his clothes and thread tied to his hand. Banakal police inspector told Udayavani that a DNA test will be carried out, if required, to rule out any doubts about the identity.
The mortal remains have been kept at the Chikkamagaluru Government Hospital for an autopsy. The post-mortem examination will be held on Saturday.
It is said that there were 3 others with Sawad, who may have been involved in the mysterious death. Kukkaje locals suspect the death may be related to ganja peddling.
An investigation is underway.
