Bantwal: A man had a miraculous escape after a gravel-laden lorry of KNRC Company collided with his car near BC Road here on Thursday morning

The car driver, Krishna Arasa, a native of Mysuru was on his way to Moodbidiri’s Alva College to take his daughter home for the Diwali vacation. The lorry driver was driving at high speed and rammed into his car. The front portion of the car was completely damaged due to the impact of the collision. Luckily Krishna escaped unhurt.

A tense situation prevailed at the spot as locals protested against the company and the lorry drivers. Movement of the KNRC company lorries was blocked on the route. The crowd was dispersed following police intervention.

The KNRC company which has been entrusted with the road widening of National Highway from BC Road to Addahole transports gravel from the plant at Kuppepadavu through huge lorries to carry out the work. However, the drivers have been noticed to drive recklessly while talking over their phones, plugging in their earphones and paying no attention to other vehicles

Locals expressed outrage that there have been numerous accidents in the area for the last two years due to this recklessness. They also expressed concern over safety of the students at a school located nearby.

The Public demanded that a case be registered against the company and that the company lorries be fitted with speed control kits.
